By Assistant Chief Dave Wallace
April 11, 2012

On Wednesday April 11th the active crew started there monthy training for the EMS side with patient removal from vehicles that were involved in an auto accident. The night started out with EMS Lt. Tina Carosella going though a power point on BVR ( Basic Vehicle Rescue).

After the crew went though the power point, Assist Chief Wallace told the crew to gear up and meet him on the side of the new building were two cars were dropped off from Daves Delaware Valley Towing from Philadelphia. At this time EMS LT Carosella starting going over how to use the back board, collar, and CIDS on pts, c-spine, and the best way to remove the pts from the car. Assist Chief Wallace then split the crews into two groups were one crew was tought box cribbing while the other learned step cribbing, after 15 mnutes the groups which cars.

After teaching the crews how to crib the cars properly, fire police officer Donna Wallace vounteered to play the role of the victim. Assist Wallace then regrouped everyone and gave them a senerio of an auto accident with one in the car. Crews had to come together and decide on who was goign to do C-Spine and how they were going to get the pt out of the car.

The night went well with pt extercation crews learned many differnt ways to remove the pts from vehicles, such as just walking them out, placing the pt on the back board and the drivers and passenger side, and finally how to remove someone from the rear of a mini van thought the trunks. In all the crew did a great good and we will contunie to work on ours skills thoughtout the month with vehicle rescue.
