| On Monday, April 23rd, the active crew participated their monthy training.
This evening started out with Captain Chris Corle and Assistant Chief Dave Wallace going over the power equipment (Hurst Tools) and hand tools used to extricate victims from a vehicle that are trapped and cannot get out on their own.
Assistant Chief Wallace then told the crews to gear up meet him on the side of the new building, where Dave's Delaware Valley Towing of Southwest Philly kindly donated two scrap cars.
At this time, EMS LT Tina Carosella went over how to approach the involved car, to make sure that the patients do not move and to stand in front of the car until someone gets in the vehicle to hold c-spine.
Assistant Chief Wallace then told the crews to crib the vehicles, as they were taught in the previous week's training, using box cribbing and step cribbing.
Assistance Wallace then regrouped everyone and gave them a scenerio of an auto accident with one in the car. Crews had to come together and decide on who was goign to do C-Spine and how they were going to get the patient out of the car.
The night went well with patient extrication. Crews learned many different ways to remove the patients from vehicles, from popping the door all the way up to the taking the whole roof off. This included how to remove the patient, placing the patient on the backboard, and finally how to remove someone from the rear of a minivan through the trunk.
Al in all, the crew did a great job and will continue to improve on ours skills with vehicle rescue.
Again, the Modena Fire Company would like to thank Dave's Delaware Valley Towing for providing us with great junk cars and supporting our training efforts.
