On Friday May 5th at 14:15hrs Stations 41/43 along with Engine 76, Engine 38, Engine 37 and RIT 31 were dispatched to the area of N 8th and Merchant St for the Dwelling.

Initial notes reported smoke coming from the top of a house in that area. Ladder 41 was on scene first and reported smoke showing on arrival. Battalion 41 took Command and crews began to search for the fire on the 2nd floor. The fire was still not visible at this time but a heavy smoke condition was still present. As crews were on the roof trying to open up to find the fire it began to vent thru one of the holes they cut in the roof. Crews were pulled off the roof and interior began to open the ceiling on the 2nd floor to expose the fire and were able to put a knock on it very quickly once it was found.

All 3 engine’s made the response once on scene and assisted with suppression, overhaul and clean up at the scene. Crews operated over two hours before being released by Command (Batt. Chief Patton).

Special thanks to Irish Eyez Emergency Services Photography for the great pictures as usual and part of the story. Also thanks to Earl Taylor for some of his pictures.
