House Fire in Modena Borough
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Deputy Chief Christopher Corle Jr.
April 24, 2022

This morning at 2:38am the Modena Fire Company was dispatched to Woodland Ave for a brush fire. A short time later the Chester County 911 Center received additional calls reporting it was a house on fire not brush. At that time the assignment was upgraded to a house fire. Engine 37-2 with Deputy 37 arrived a short time later and confirmed they had a vacant home fully involved and would have a long stretch to the scene due to the road being closed. Crews from Modena and Coatesville stretched a 3 inch leader line with a gated wye up the hill to the scene. At that time the crew from Ladder 41 put an 1 3/4 handline in service while Engine 43 dropped a 5 inch supply line from N Brandywine Ave up to the scene dumping their entire bed (1000ft) and connected the 5 inch to Engine 37-2. A dump site was established at N Brandywine and Woodland Ave for tankers to dump their water to supply the scene. Rescue 49 arrived as the 3rd due Engine and the crew proceeded up the hill to the scene and connected a second 1 3/4 handline to the wye and assisted the initial crews with fire extinguishment. The fire was already well advanced on arrival of fire crews and the house eventually collapsed. A backhoe from East Fallowfield was called to the scene to assist in pulling the pile apart so crews could finish extinguishing the fire. In all companies were on scene for approx. 2 hours before clearing the scene.

Thank you the the Lionville and Minquas Fire companies for standing by at are station during the fire.
