Christmas Day Large Animal Rescue

On December 25th, Christmas Day, Modena Fire Company along with Po-Mar-Lin for the LAR equipment was alerted to assist the police with with a reported horse down and not able to get back up.

Chief 37 (Dowlin) responded along with Assistant 36 (Able) direct to the scene. Chief 37 had the Strasburg command. Battalion 37 (Reason) advised county that the backhoe from East Fallowfield township was on its way. Engine 37-1 with a crew of 4 made the response, Utility 37 with a crew of 3 responded moments later. Utility 36 with LAR equipment responded. Rescue 36, and Squad 36 all made the response as well. Crews worked for two hours to get the horse back up standing. Once the horse was lback up FF Ivan from Po-Mar-Lin walked the horse around with the owner to make sure she was going to be good before crews cleared.

As an instructor / field supervisor who critiques these incidents, this was a stellar example of good organization, safety culture and use of equipment. Obviously some good training has happened with this company. Keep on setting the mark!
