On Monday Evening around 2052 the Modena Fire Company Fire Police were alerted to close South 1st Avenue between Newlinville Road and Modena Road.

A train hauling steel ingots crossing 1st avenue at the gate 9/gate 4 entrance to Arcelor Mittal derailed two cars causing damage to the road and breaking the train track in pieces. Fire Police remained on scene for one hours and were released as the rail cars were off the main road.

Just after mid-night the Fire Police were again alerted to close the road, a decision was made by Arcelor Mittal to set the trains back onto the tracks using cranes from an independent company. Ones the rail cars were back on track the train engine took them to their destination, Arcelor Mittal crew then removed parts of the rail bed and filled it with stone so that traffic would have a smooth surface to cross.

Fire Police remained on scene until 0145 hours.

Motorist should use caution in that area in days to come as eventually the tracks will need to be replaced.
