Working Fire on Youngsburg Road in East Fallowfield

In the early morning hours of Friday February 3, 2017, the Modena Fire Company volunteers were awoken at 0139 for a reported out building fire in the area of Youngsburg Road and Wheatland Drive in East Fallowfield. Also on the assignment was Westwood, Coatesville, Sadsburyville, and Keystone Valley for RIT.

Chief 37 (Dowlin) responded and was advised police we’re correcting address to 50 Youngsburg and were reporting a working fire. Deputy 44 (Scott) was first to arrive reporting 20x30 out building well off.

Chief Dowlin arrived and assumed Youngsburg Command and assigned Deputy 44 to operations, also requested 2 additional tankers be added to the assignment. Addition tanker were alerted from Keystone Valley and Cochranville.

Ladder 41-1 was first apparatus on scene and took drive way and went in service with one hand line, Engine 37-1 arrived and lead 600ft 5inch supply line up the driveway and the its crew deployed two addition hand lines, Engine 44-5 picked up the line at bottom of drive and supplied Engine 37-1.

Engine 37-3 arrived as well as Rescue 8 and Engine 31-1 and set manpower up to the scene. Tankers 27 and 8 shuttled water from a hydrant in a nearby development.

The fire was placed under control at 0212, however crews remained on scene for several hours with extensive overhaul. A backhoe was called in from East Fallowfield Township following overhaul to knock down the unstable structure.

Modena and Westwood apparatus remained on scene until after 0600 hours however Modena crews worked well into the morning hours cleaning and getting apparatus back into service.

We would like to thank the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company for standing by at our station during this incident and helping us get back into service.

The fire was investigated by local, county, and state fire marshals.
