| On Monday evening the active crew attended their weekly training night. Tonight's training involved vehicle extrication techniques.
The night started off with Captain Wallace showing the active crew how to properly stabilize a vehicle, followed by Lt. Brown going over all the Hurst power equipment. For some it was a refresher, but for most it was an introduction on the basics of vehicle extrication.
The crews then split into two separate groups, with Captain Wallace taking the junior firefighters, and Lt. Brown and Lt. Gatchel taking the senior firefighters. Junior firefighters were shown how to stabilize the vehicle using cribbing, and also shown the proper ways to take windows out. Lt. Brown showed senior members how to remove one door off the vehicle, and then the crew took over the tools and continued to remove the rest of the doors and the roof. During training patient care was kept a priority and maintained during the evolution.
After the vehicle extrication took place, patient (our rescue dummy 'Buster') was removed from vehicle and placed onto a long board, including collar and CIDs.
Crews then cleaned up parking lot and placed tools and equipment back in service.
Training is very important to our company. We encourage all members to participate during these drills. Thank you to all who attended and participated.
Special thanks to Fire Police Captain Gatchel for taking pictures during training!
Also special thanks to Buzz Woodward Towing for donating the vehicle and the removal. |
