Smoke Detector Distribution In Modena

By Fire Chief Frank Dowlin
March 7, 2009

On Saturday march 7, 2009 members of the Modena Fire Company meet at the station around 10am to start distributing the smoke detector donated by ArcelorMittal and the Brandywine Health Foundation earlier this week.

Ten member split up Modena and headed out door to door in pairs of two, two other headed out to East Fallowfield and South Coatesville to take care of a few installs the either called the fire house or their municipality earlier this week.

Members were not only offering free smoke detector but also reminding residents that the clock turn ahead this evening and smoke detector batteries should also be changed, crews had batteries to offer residents if needed.

Throughout the morning it was great to see that residents for the most part have keep up on their smoke detectors, most stating that the recent fire in the area made them act on checking, replacing batteries, or even added more detectors to their homes.

Throughout the morning crew installed 29 detectors and replaced 16 batteries in 19 different homes the borough of Modena was completed around 1pm. Residents of the Borough are reminded if you weren't home to catch us or after some thought fell you need detectors please call the Borough office or the fire hall to get on next Saturday's list of installs.

South Coatesville resident your turn is next we will be door to door on Saturday March 21th and 28th (28th if not able to finish on 21st) with both detectors and batteries in the interim you can also call your borough hall or the fire station to get on the install list so you're not overlooked.

East Fallowfield residents are reminded the only way you will get detectors will be to call the township building and get on the list of installs, this list is e-mailed to the Fire Chief every Friday and installs from that list will be done on Saturday's between 11 and 1. Due to the size of the township and most of it be newer construction we will NOT be going door to door, so PLEASE call the township building if you need detectors.

Units: Engine 37-1, Ambulance 37,1, Brush 37
