| On Monday March 23, 2009 Fire Chief Frank Dowlin traveled to the Parkesburg along with firefighter Chris Corle, and Sean Moody with a tow truck from Flings Towing to pick up new gear racks recently inquired from the Parkesburg Fire Company.
Over the past few months the company had talked about the need to replace the gear racks that where falling off the walls. The current gear racks where only two or three years old however due to the construction and age of the station the racks would not hold on the walls properly they where pulling away from the walls causing the racks to sag and fall apart.
During the month as we were looking around at new racks it was mentioned that both Atglen, and Parkesburg had some made in Amish country somewhere and they where a very reasonable price. A decision was made to take a ride to Parkesburg to look at the racks and take some measurements. On our arrival at Parkesburg we where informed that they where looking to get rid of three of their racks cheap, after going back and discussing it among the active members it was decided to purchase the rack at the low cost from Parkesburg and then get the four additional racks at a later date.
At training on Wednesday March 25, 2009 the crews removed three old gear racks and installed the three new ones in the lower bays of the station. Additional gear racks will be purchased through Millers welding & repair in Christiana in the weeks to come.
The Members of the Modena Fire Company would like to Thank both Parkesburg and Flings Towing for their assistance in this project. |
