Working Midday House Fire in East Fallowfield

By Fire Chief Frank Dowlin
April 27, 2009

On Monday, April 27th, 2009 the Modena Fire Company along with several other area Fire Companies received a call at 1300 to Glen Lee Lane in East Fallowfield Township following reports of a house on fire.

Calls to 911 indicated that the roof of a home was involved in flames.

Assistant Chief Dowlin arrived on scene quickly after the dispatch at 1304 confirming the address to be 45 Glen Lee Lane and reported the house to be "well involved" in flames, and requested a "Working Fire Dispatch."

Assistant Chief Dowlin established "Glen Lee Command" until the arrival of Deputy Chief Perine on Engine 37-2.

Engine 37-1 and Engine 37-2 responded at 1305 along with Ambulance 37-1. All units arrived on scene at 1311, just behind Coatesville Ladder 43 positioned in the driveway. Engine 37-1 deployed addition hand lines to back up hand lines already in place by Ladder 43.

With the hard work of the initial crews, the bulk of the fire was contained to the second floor and roof areas which were already heavily involved upon the arrival of fire crews. Much of the first floor of the home sustained smoke and water damage.

Additional units were called to the scene for both water and manpower. In addition to the hot fire, Firefighter were quickly over whelmed by the whether outside that were over 90 degrees. Firefighter had to take a rest more often then normal and rehab trying to stay hydrated.

Crews worked throughout the hot afternoon to overhaul the residence and remove salvageable items for the homeowner.

Modena units along with Local, County, and State fire marshals cleared the scene around 17:30 hours and returned to the station for additional clean up.

We would like to thank the Union Fire Company of Oxford and Good Fellowship Ambulance for covering our district through the duration of this incident.
