By Deputy Chief Frank Dowlin
July 2, 2010

In the early morning hours of July 2 2010 while most were sleeping the Modena Fire Company volunteers were awoken by the sound of their pagers at 0222 for a reported vehicle leaking fuel on Modena Road east of Overhill Road.

Deputy Chief Dowlin arrived on scene to find one vehicle on its side that was involved in a roll over crash vehicle was not leaking fuel. Traffic 37 and additional fire police closed Modena Road between Overhill Road and Union street. Engine 37-2 made the response and provided lighting at the scene during police investigation.

The operator of this vehicle left the road at a high rate of speed flipping the vehicle and hitting a tree some 20ft in the air before coming to rest on its side in the middle of Modena road. Remarkable the operator was able to remove themselves from the vehicle and flee the scene.

After the police investigation was done Flings towing flipped the car and removed it from the scene as Firefighters then cleaned up the large debris field left behind by the accident.

All units cleared the scene and the road was reopened at 0310

Units: Engine 37-2, Traffic 37
