By Modena Fire Company
February 26, 2013

On February 26th 2013, At 11:54, Modena Fire Company was dispatched along with Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company Rescue 36 and Brandywine Hospital Medic 93 to Doe Run Road North of Covered Bridge Road for an auto accident with entrapment.

Ambulance 37-1 responded at 11:58 and was advised that the accident was involving an overturned tanker truck, and that the operator was trapped. Medic 93 requested that a helicopter be placed on standby due to the reports. Engine 37-3 responded 12:00 and requested a second Rescue be dispatched to the scene for assistance.

Ambulance 37-1 arrived at 12:03 and confirmed the driver of the truck to be heavily trapped with a fuel spill. EMS personnel on the scene with Ambulance 37-1, requested the helicopter to respond to the scene, and assigned Engine 36 to establish a landing zone in a field near the accident scene. The Chester County Hazmat Team was requested due to the diesel fuel leaking from the saddle tanks of the tractor.

Rescue 36 and Rescue 44 arrived and their crews started setting up for an extrication. Engine 37-3 and Battalion 37 arrived at 12:08 and assumed the "Doe Run Command" and requested a response from Null's Towing for their large wrecker to assist with the extrication. It was later determined by EMS Personnel that the helicopter would not be needed and was recalled. Command requested a response from PECO Electric to secure electric lines that were affected by the accident. Notification was made to the trucking company to obtain an additional truck to offload the material being carried by the truck involved in the accident.

Command requested a Fire Police Task Force shutdown Doe Run Road, and divert traffic from the accident scene. Rescue 36 was placed available by command as only one Rescue would be needed. Null's Towing arrived, and crews worked together to recover the subject from the tractor, which was at 16:34. Crews remained on the scene to assist Null's Towing with cleanup and scene lighting.

All 37 units cleared the scene at 19:10.
